Historical Society

Baldwin is a small town and actively seeks to maintain that concept while at the same time it is attempting to keep pace with the times. The solid values that our forefathers had can still be found here today and lead us into the future. The Baldwin Historical Society was incorporated in 1992 with a pledge to preserve and promote the rich history of the town. Our goal has been to accumulate the historical material into one area which would be readily available and easily accessed by the community. The society strives to enrich the community by promoting its’ historical legacy. We invite you to learn about Baldwin’s and your history. Enjoy the photos (we have thousands in our digital archives), look through the old documents in our safekeeping, and possibly do a little research into your family tree. Learn about the daily lives of those who lived here decades ago, before the advent of the automobile and the computer.

  • The Baldwin History Room is located in the Chadbourne Homestead at 6 School Street, in East Baldwin and is open from 10am - 1pm on the second and forth Saturdays of the month. Come Visit Us! We would like to assist you in finding any information you may need. We are also open by appointment. You may call Sharon Thomas at 625-8946 for more information or to make an appointment.
  • The Baldwin Historical Society’s regular meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 7pm, except for April, November and December, in the library’s community room. The public is always welcome. Come to a meeting and enjoy the company of your friends and neighbors.

Commemorative Memory Stones

  • The memory stones on the walkway in front of the community room to the library offers an opportunity to reflect on the past lend perspective to the present and recollect memories of those remembered there. We will be adding more stones to the walk this year. To purchase a stone to add your name, memorialize a loved one or honor a friend or relative, these stones will allow your special people to be remembered always.

The Grateful Undead

Baldwin, along with, Porter, Parsonsfield, Cornish and Hiram, now belong to the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. The spearhead for this effort was The Grateful Undead, a local group of concerned citizens whose mission is to support folks that want to age in place and stay in their homes as long as possible.
